Who benefits from Yomez?
Yomez is an app that helps professionals like you master the skills of self leadership, management, and execution.
You can be organized, have clarity of the goals you want to achieve, chart steps to achieve those goals, and have a realistic plan to execute in a repeatable fashion.
You can be recognized by your manager and peers as a master of focus, time management, and effectiveness. They’ll learn they can depend on you because you’re on “top of it” and you “get it”
For Individual Contributors
We all start as individual contributors. You participate in determining the goals or priorities for you and your team and then you focus on getting things done. Estimating how long things will take is often very challenging. Sometimes things take a lot longer than expected and this miss is very visible to your colleagues. Sometimes it’s not obvious how much actual work time is available to finish things because of meetings and time off.
Any of these familiar?
Your manager comes to you and asks if you can take on a new task. You’re not sure you can but feel obligated to help so you say yes. You find out that you really over committed and by the end of the week you’ve missed delivering on what you promised.
You sign up to do a project and promise to finish it by end of next week. After committing, you remember you are taking Thursday off for a family obligation next week and that a doctor appointment will cause you to miss 2-3 hours of work as well. You are now short of time and have to put in extra hours in the evening to meet the commitments you made. You make it just barely.
It’s review time. Your manager asks you what have you been up to and what have you achieved. If you setup goals at the start of the year, you are asked how you are doing to those goals. You get this awful feeling in your stomach and you start looking back through old emails to figure out what you did so you can look good on your review.
With Yomez, all the above is very different
Your manager asks you if you can take on a new task. You look at your Yomez and see that you are full for the week and next week as well. You show your manager your plan, how long it’s going to take, and tell them you’d be happy to help, but something else will need to be pushed to later. Your manager see’s how you are focused on goals, have a plan, and how it fits in your week(s). Your manager recognizes you are crazy organized and says “don’t worry about this, what you are doing now is the most important. Keep up the good work.”
You sign up to do a project and promise to finish it by end of next week. You know its going to fit because you created tasks with estimates and Yomez shows you how much actual work time you have to do stuff and that it fits. It automatically subtracted all your meetings, the day off with the family, and the 4 hour doctor visit. You work a normal work day, deliver on what you promised, and look like a champ!
It’s review time. Your manager asks you what have you been up to and what have you achieved. You show your manager your Goals in Yomez, how you are measuring your success to these goals, how you are meeting these goals, and killing it. Your manager is impressed and wants to know more. You show your manager 2-3 weeks of your Yomez weekly planner screens. Your manager sees each goal, the tasks you did to hit these goals, the time effort you made, and they are in awe. They recommend you get a raise and teach what you have done to other people on your team.
For Managers
You are not only responsible for results of your team, you are also responsible for results for yourself. You must juggle making sure your team is hitting the goals, planning, recruiting, maintaining team morale, doing budgets, reviews and more.
Often its’ very difficult to balance all these things. Its very common for things to become overwhelming, goals to start being missed, team issues to cause problems, and work-life balance to suffer.
With Yomez
Yomez helps you lead and manage yourself so that you can focus on what’s most important. By mastering self leadership and management, you can also teach your team members to do the same. When you don’t have to look over your team member’s shoulder all the time to make sure they are on track, you can manage many more people and multiply your effectiveness by 10 to 100 times.
Yomez also helps you balance work and life. You can allocate time to company goals, self learning, and none work goals as well. It’s all laid out in front of you. You can make commitments that you have time to meet and look like a master doing it.
For Executives
Executives have a tough job! In the early days of a company you wear many hats. You manage, recruit, raise money, and have meetings… lot’s of meetings. In addition to this you also have things you want to get done.
You are ambitious and have a big list of what you want to get done and most of the time stuff just falls off this list intentionally or unintentionally. Some time you loose focus of your most important goals, get trapped in daily operations, and tend to stray from the path.
As a company grows, your responsibilities increase and the problems get worse.
With Yomez
You add your measurable goals to Yomez. Each week you start with the Yomez weekly planner to determine your plan, you add the goals you want to focus on, and the tasks you are going to do to move them forward.
Instead of believing and hoping you’ll actually get to all the items on your list this week, you see in Yomez that it will take you 2 weeks to do it (you are reminded you have meetings. taking Thursday off, and the following Monday is a company holiday)
You make difficult choices on what to focus on this week and what is the highest priority to move your goals forward. You also look for others on your team to delegate to in order to scale up and be able to get more things done.
When other executives, including the CEO, ask how’s it going, you show them the measurable goals you have for yourself in Yomez. The Goal measure graphs speak for themselves with the expected outcome at this point in time and the actual outcome. You talk about the places where you and your team are doing well and what you are doing to improve measures that are not.
You are really good at leading and managing yourself using Yomez. You show Yomez and how you are using it to your managers. Your managers are intrigued and give Yomez a try. As they use Yomez they improve their self leadership and self management and they mentor the same skills to their team members. As they improve you learn that you can delegate more to them and they can mange themselves and their teams in the same way. You scale your ability to execute by a factor of 10-100 or more
4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX)
If you ask most professionals what is the hardest thing, i.e. picking goals, planning, or executing, they’ll often say execution. This is a common feeling but in reality it’s really not execution but effectiveness, i.e. getting results.
4DX is a system organized by Franklin Covey based on many years and hundreds of companies on what works to get results. Yomez incorporates support for concepts from 4DX and allows team members to lead and manage themselves. Team members recognize the goals they are working towards, determine their own lead goals, and track/share progress with their colleagues.
| 4DX | Yomez |
| 1 Focus on the Wildly Important | Lead/Lag Goals/Measures, tasks that rollup to higher level goals. |
| 2 Act on the Lead Measures | Weekly planning and focus on lead measure, tasks, and time. |
| 3 Keep a Compelling Scoreboard | Measurable goals that come with a graph based scoreboard. |
| 4 Create a Cadence of Accountability | Weekly planning and execution. |
Objective and Key Results (OKR)
OKR’s are an extremely simple way to align an organization of any size to achieve goals. OKR’s were invented by Intel and are used at Google, Microsoft, Slack, and many others.
Yomez supports OKR’s by providing a facility to create hierarchical measurable goals. Yomez provides an “Objective Goal” and key result type goals. It takes plain OKR a little further by specifying Lag and Lead measures (from 4DX) to provide clarity on which measures we have direct control over and which we don’t. This is an important concept that comes from 4DX to allow people to act on the things they have control over instead of worrying about things they don’t. It allows them to see if the things they have control over (Lead measures) have an impact on the measures that are out of their control (Lag Measures).
For example, a sales person can focus on making sales calls, providing customers with what they need (Lead measures), in an effort to increase actual sales (Lag Measure). The sales results (which we don’t have direct control) are important but we can recognize the measures that we do have control over and focus on those. Those Lead measures, when executed, should drive the Lag measures, sales.
Yomez can be used by individuals to track their Lead goals and to execute to those goals in the time they have available.
